Smarthome 59501 Hidden IR Repeater System, Black Review

Smarthome 59501 Hidden IR Repeater System, Black

This is my second one of these (the other one didn't die, I just needed a second one for a different room) and both have worked great. Perfect for hiding your a/v components out of the way for a nice clean look to your home theater.
Only reason for a four instead of a 5 is because the length of the cable from the repeater (which accepts the signal from the remote) and the box (in the closet that transmits the signal to your components) is pretty short and can't be extended (best as I can tell). This is a design change from the older models and not a good one. So you need to keep your components about 6 feet or so from the home theater. Depending on your set up and location of your stuff this is either no biggie or a deal breaker, your call.
Construction of the unit seems a little cheap, but given that you pretty much just set the thing up and then it sits there this is not a big deal. No moving parts or anything, so whatever.
Overall a great solution, works exactly as advertised.

Had the product for over 1 month. Had to reset it once it would not re-lay the remote signal. have it hooked up to the base unit with regular CAT5e wire and had not problems with it until it up and quit. Overall a good product I don't know if it will stand up to long term heavy use. It also displays getting signal a lot when there are no remotes in the room even. It is mounted underneath my plasma tv, that might have something to do with it.

Windows 7 Vista XP Media Center MCE PC Remote Control and Infrared Receiver for Home, Premium and Ultimate Edition Review

Windows 7 Vista XP Media Center MCE PC Remote Control and Infrared Receiver for Home, Premium and Ultimate Edition
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
So I bought this remote with the intent of only using it's IR receiver and programming my Harmony one to control Windows 7 Media Center 64 bit. I found out, however, that the remote isn't in logitech's remote database, and also doesn't seem to use the generic microsoft codes that most remotes use. I therefore had to manually "teach" the harmony my remote's codes in RAW format. The problem with this is that this method caused significant lag and delay that I couldn't fix with inter-device and inter-key delays/repeats in Logitech's manual setup. After an afternoon on the phone with logitech level 2 support, I was finally able to remove the lag/delay and get my remote functioning properly. If one is planning on using this remote and included IR receiver together as intended, I would definitely recommend it. It works very well with WMC, and I haven't found anything wrong with it. It is quick and responsive, and all commands work properly. I'm mainly writing this review for others who were contemplating this purchase for the IR receiver to be used with their Harmony/universal remote. The lag/delay issue can be overcome, but it's going to take a call to logitech level 2 support to correct. For those who are buying this with the intent on using the remote and supplied IR receiver with WMC, I would whole-heartedly recommend it.

Logitech Harmony IR Extender System (Black) Review

Logitech Harmony IR Extender System (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am using this IR extender with various remotes and am very happy with the performance. But my road to satisfaction had a bump I can help you avoid. I, like most folks, like to test things out to see if they work before I invest much time in installation. Installation is minimal in this case, just running some wires and making room to plug the device in on a pretty full UPS, but I wanted to test it out none the less. So I plugged everything in, moved the receiver around the corner, pointed the stylish blaster at the devices (an ATT Uverse box, TV and DVD player) and .... nothing happened. Added a mini blaster and ... I got very erratic transmission. Moved them closer, farther away ... still awful performance. I could see the lights responding on the blaster. I read the instructions again, which are very brief because the product is so simple, and still could not figure it out.
So, I called Logitech support, got escalated a level and then got an answer to my blunder. I am now appropriately humbled. I was pointing the shinny rounded edge toward the electronics. It is the side with the wires coming out that needs to be pointed in the general direction of the devices to be controlled. It makes total sense for when you install the blasters. They were designed to sit on a shelf slightly in front of any equipment with their wires extending toward the back of the shelf. But, when I was testing from in front of the equipment, I did not think to turn the blaster around so the side with all of the wires attached was pointing at the electronics.
Once over this bump in the road I created, the product worked well with all of my remotes. Of note, the IR receiver - the only part that sits out in the open - has a cord that is 8 feet in length and ends in what looks just like a 3.5mm audio jack. That should cover most applications. However, if additional length is needed, a headphone cord extender would fit - I just do not know of the signal would travel the additional length.

Sewell Infrared (IR) Remote Control Repeater Kit (Black) Review

Sewell Infrared (IR) Remote Control Repeater Kit (Black)
Average Reviews:

I wanted a wired IR extender instead of an RF (wireless) style to control my TV/cable and stereo equipment. This product is exactly what I hoped. It comes with one eye to receive the remote control signal and a dual emitter for the equipment rack (which I located in a closet). The amplifier unit has up to six emitter outputs to feed the equipment rack. The amplifier also has an input if you want to add an in-wall receiver (sold separately). The recevier cable and emitter cables use standard 1/8" stereo plugs and the cables are about 6 feet. I added a separate 25 foot cable to extend the recevier eye and it works fine. The receveir eye and amplifer both have an LED that illuminates whne the remote control is pressed to show it processes the signal. Finally, this same product is available from many suppliers, this supplier was notably less expensive.

Got a Logitech Harmony universal remote? Want to control your home theater pc with it along with everything else in your living room? Then this is the remote you want. I actually only needed the IR adapter and i was able to control my pc with the Logitech Harmony 880. I tried the remote pictured here and it works perfectly but i didn't need it. If you want a cheap IR to control your HTPC then here is a good solution. Oh and to program the Harmony to work with it you'll need the model name and number which is: Chinavision CVSB-983

Buffalo IR-100 IR Receiver Review

Buffalo IR-100 IR Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have a home theater I've been building for a number of years and when I painted the walls and ceiling dark colors my IR universal remote could no longer bounce the signal off the front wall and screen to hit the equipment in a rack behind me. I did quite a bit of research and for the money found the Buffalo Electronics IR solution was what I needed.
This is the heart of the system. It's a piece of cake to install. Simply buy a sensor like the Buffalo IR-350 Cabinet Mount IR Repeater and then you run Cat5e cable from the sensor to the receiver, plug in up to four emitters (they come in 1 flasher, 2 flasher and 3 flasher models for a total of up to 12 devices per control block) and you're done.
This system was piece of cake to install. A friend and I got all the wires run and emitters attached in an hour. I can't believe I waited as long as I did to do this. If you're planning a theater or want to put your components in a closet and need an IR extension solution this is what you want. You can use really long runs (other side of the house) without fear of losing the signal (other solutions have short cable lengths that don't make them very useful).
I even split up one of the emitter cables to use for my IR light switches on the side of the room and it worked fine spliced with Cat3 cable (phone line). Great product.

Dual Frequency IR Receiver Review

Product did as it described. I Bought it to work with the high freqency of the Digital set top box that I have from my cable company.
It produces a bright blue led flash when a signal is recieved, which is great because it lets me know that it did get the signal. If it becomes a problem, simple fix is a piece of black electrical tape and now no more blue light... Mine sits in the between my wii sensor bar and works greats. Can't complain.
possible thinking of buying another one for the bedroom!

Cables To Go Impact Acoustics 40430 Infrared (IR) Remote Control Repeater Kit (Black) Review

Cables To Go Impact Acoustics 40430 Infrared (IR) Remote Control Repeater Kit (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This product works GREAT and is very inexpensive compared to others. I recommend using this product over wireless repeaters for reliability and cleanliness of installation.
PROS: Very neat installation and very accurate repeater for a complete system using a Sony 52 inch LCD. Ample wires and expansion capability. Feels like a well built product with clear labeling on the box for easy installation. I added a standard 12 foot long 3.5mm M/F stereo extension cable to lengthen the 10 foot IR Receiver cable that was included in the kit. This allowed me to put the IR receiver on the TV (wall mounted Sony) and put the box in the equipment closet 12 feet away. It worked flawlessly. They should advertise this capability on the Cables to Go website.
CONS: The double back tape on the IR Transmitters seemed kinda week. I don't think they'll fall off over time, but actually might. The IR transmitter plugs pop out of the box very easily. I think they are using the wrong plug/socket combination in the design; they work, but come out VERY easily when they should 'click' in like the IR receiver and power plug do. The power cord is the same plug as all the other ports. It is easily confused with the port next to it labeled "Status". The unit will not work if the power is in the "Status" port, but when miswired, does not fry the unit either. (Uh, don't ask how I learned this...)
Great Product. Highly Recommended. 9 out of 10 for the IR Transmitters not locking in correctly.

Does your entertainment system have wooden doors, or would you like to mount your components in a closet? Infrared Receiver Extender Cable for HD DVR STB's Review

Infrared Receiver Extender Cable for HD DVR STB's

My FIOS HD (non-DVR) box series QIP6200 had a port labeled "IR". With some internet investigation and an impressivly prompt email reply from the vendor IR-Resources I learned that my FIOS box had only either an IR-output or a service port...which was why the IR receiver would not work.
The GREAT news for me was that Verizon (with one phone call & a later trip to the local Verizon center) did a no-cost swap to an updated FIOS HD (non-DVR) box QIP7100 series that had "IR INPUT" port. The IR Recieiver works 1000% as I expected with the 7100 series box. I am now able to put my FIOS box inside a closed door entertainment unit and still have full remote control functions.
Delivery was prompt, the items (I bought 2) were well wrapped etc. and were exactly as represented. The receiver head is small & pretty much invisible on the black frame of my plasma TV and the 9 foot lead wire was plenty......
I'm not sure what happened to the other reviewers but when I first contacted IR Resources they willingly offered me a full refund if I so desired. They also followed thru promptly to update the Amzon posting as not-compatable w/ the Verizon 6000 series ......and again I CAN NOT SAY ENOUGH POSITIVE THINGS ABOUT HOW VERY VERY VERY PROMPTLY IR-RESOURCES REPLIED TO MY EMAIL SENT VIA AMAZON. If only every internet vendor was this responsible!!!
