Jenis J-C450D-P-B Professional Battery Grip for Canon XS and XSi Digital SLR Cameras (Black)
Average Reviews:

This was a gift from my son last week to go with my Canon T1I.
Pro's
- Solid build and comfortable feel
- Expands on the camera's capability
- Holds 2 batteries so you can keep shooting during extended sessions
- Has an additional tray for using "AA" batteries in an 'emergency'
- Interfaces with the DSLR
- Setting are easily adjusted
- Several of the camera controls are remoted for easy use during portrait shots
- Off/On switch for remote buttons if you want to disable them for landscape shots
Con's
- Does not retain settings when the battery tray is removed (no battery backup). EDIT - IGNORE THIS CON STATEMENT AND SEE THE EXCELLENT INFO IN SUBSEQUENT POSTS REGARDING BATTERY BACK UP AND ORIGINAL BATTERY COVER STORAGE!!!
Minor irritation in the grand scheme of things since setting clock/calendar is
so easy
EDIT - I've now had this grip for almost a year and still love it, particularly after being corrected by subsequent reviewers regarding battery back up and, as a bonus, the original battery cove/door storage.

Doesn't recognize DIRECTV HD HDMI signal, I contacted Cables Unlimited and they confirmed that the signal from DIRECTV HD Receivers don't send out a strong enough signal for the Switch box to recognize. When I purchased this item shipping was free on because it was a super saver shipping item but when I ended up returning the product back to Amazon they ended up charging me $5.95 for returning shipping charges.

Jenis J-ND90-P-B Professional Battery Grip for Nikon D90/D80 (Black) Review

Jenis J-ND90-P-B Professional Battery Grip for Nikon D90/D80 (Black)
Average Reviews:

Overall, this is a good grip for the money. Looking at it and comparing it to the Satechi battery grip which sells for considerably more, I'd say they are identical. It performs well in every function available in this model. The quality of construction is consistent with the price. The battery grip is made of plastic, but let's admit it, so is the Nikon D90 and D80. The quality of the plastic in the battery grip is made of a slightly less quality plastic than the Nikon camera body and I assume, the OEM Nikon MB-D80 battery grip. If I were to grade the quality and durability of the plastic it is made of I'd give it 6 out of 10. For comparison, I'd rate the durability of the plastic in the Nikon D90 body as 8 out of 10. 10 being virtually indestructible. For everyday use, I'm not concerned at all that I'll break this grip. The function wheels on the front and rear mimic the wheel functions on the camera body and perform just as well. They feel a bit different to the camera body wheels, which I prefer, but do the job just fine. The shutter release button works well and feels about the same as the shutter release button on the camera body. The function buttons to program the clock, shutter release timer and intervalometer (for shooting time-lapse) are a little sluggish, but not enough to cause me problems. The instructions that are included leave a lot to be desired as they are obviously translated from Chinese to English, French and German. Even with the poor translation, I understood the instructions enough to work every setting and program the grip to complete every function available. If you are looking for an inexpensive battery grip, buy this one. If you want a perfect match for your Nikon and don't need the intervalometer, then spend twice the money and get the OEM Nikon grip. If you must have an intervalometer (a function Nikon doesn't offer in a battery grip), then this is the grip for you.

Worth buying for sure. Though it is a little flimsy. Be careful with the sliding button on the side. Other than that it has performed great. I use it for extremely long exposures that require the bulb setting and it has not failed me while hooked up through the wire. I am not sure about the wireless mode because I have hardly used it. Seems to work at an acceptable range when I do.

JobSite M-64R Handheld Multizone Remote Control Review

JobSite M-64R Handheld Multizone Remote Control

These remotes are not easy to find. I needed this type of remote for my whole house audio system and this one fit the bill. It works perfectly.

Click Here to see more reviews about: JobSite M-64R Handheld Multizone Remote Control

Enjoy complete wireless control over your JobSite multizone audio system with this handheld remote control. Compatible with such JobSite IR receivers as the IR-FMR flush-mount, IR-SMR surface-mount, and IR-WMR wall-mount models, the remote lets you control virtually any A/V component from another room, provided an IR receiver is installed nearby. Simply point the remote at the IR receiver, which sends the signal to an IR connecting block hub. The hub then routes the signal to the IR emitters mounted on your components. As the emitter reads the information, it tells a component to play, skip, repeat, or whatever else you want it to do--all from a location several rooms away.
The M-64R remote is particularly handy when teamed with JobSite's M-64 multizone receiver, which can control up to six different zones of stereo speakers. Once the entire system is integrated, you can operate your components from wherever your speakers are located, whether in the garage, the upstairs bedroom, or the kitchen. The remote buttons range from frequently used keys such as volume and channel up/down to more specific function keys, which can be programmed to handle specialized tasks. The keypad also offers numeric keys for direct disc and channel access of CD changers and DSS tuners; transport keys such as play, fast-forward, rewind, stop, and pause; cursor keys for menu operation; and source keys that let you choose the component and control the overall system.
The remote comes with a pair of AA batteries and measures 2.5 by 8.5 by 1.62 inches (W x H x D). Homeowners with complex multizone systems may want to purchase a separate remote for each zone to prevent frustrating "where's the remote?" moments. The M-64R is backed by a two-year warranty.

Again: The screen may be fine, but the dimension is NOT 79 inches! Try 92. Would not fit designated spot. Arrived, long box scared me and rightly so. The listed length of product (the 113 is the diagonal, and I should have done the math, but trusted the Amazon product description--of course when it says 79 by 79 by 4 it likely means 92 by 4 by 4. The extra 12 inches meant it was impossible to install and had to be returned. Bad business for the normally wonderfully astute Amazon, as they pay shipping both ways. Still, but I tried.

Average Reviews:

I had a MediaGate GP-IR02BK I purchase a while back from Newegg; it was a wonderful remote, until the dog ate it.
The only thing that remote was missing was the universal functionality. So I was looking to upgrade to a universal MCE remote and found this from the same manufacturer. As soon as I opened it I knew it wasn't of the same quality, it felt cheap, the buttons were mushy, it had no weight to it, if felt like a cheap child's toy. But I had faith, the previous product from Mediagate was great...
This remote is HORRIBLE... initially i had placed the receiver in the exact same position as the previous remote and it only registers about 1 out of every 5 button presses! I've tried the receiver in many different positions, replaced the batteries, removed any other IR transmitting devices and still no luck, it is just simply a junky remote. Very disappointing.
And according to the seller's policy they won't accept returns of opened electronics!

WinTV-HVR-1950 Hybrid Video Recorder, Canadian Version Review

WinTV-HVR-1950 Hybrid Video Recorder, Canadian Version
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I took my time selecting a card or set top box to connect my Satellite box to my Media PC.
I bought the HVR-1950 thinking it was compatible with Media Center.
I use VISTA 64, and know that there are issues with hardware not being supported. Looking at the blurb on the Hauppauge site, this seemed to have all I needed.
I installed this unit and WINTV works, after a lot of messing around with the drivers on the site and the CD.
Actually, the CD drivers worked better than the updated ones on the site. It loaded more of the features, like IR blaster, which works with WINTV. Note that for the IR Blaster to work, I had to stick it to the Satellite box sensor. 6 inches away would not work!
When going through the setup of the TV in Media Center, it fails with an error, "IR Receiver hardware not detected". Searching the internet find multiple hits for this problem, but no solutions.
I am not sure if this is a Microsoft issue or Hauppauge, or maybe both.
Hauppauge advised that I need to have the VISTA Media Center remote installed as the Hauppauge one is not certified.
I will purchase a "Pinnacle Remote Kit for Windows Media Center On Vista"
and see if that helps. They cost around $30+.
What a waste, the HVR-1950 has a remote and built in IR Blaster, yet I have to buy another one.
Hopefully Hauppauge will have a certified driver for it's built-in IR Blaster and it will work without the extra remote and IR hardware.
Hope this helps.

Gefen EXT-HDMI-442 4x2 HDMI Switcher Review

Gefen EXT-HDMI-442 4x2 HDMI Switcher
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have purchased a few Gefen products in the past and find them to be of generally high quality. This experience let me to purchase this switch over other models by lesser known competitors.
The switch is designed to allow the sharing of up to 4 devices using HDMI onto two output HDMI ports. There is also a coaxial digital cable allowing the sound from the selected device to be distributed into an external amplifier. Enough HDMI cables are included to connect the 4 devices to one output device. Copy protection is passed through, which is supposed to eliminate the "blank screen" problems on some devices.
The picture on my 50" Panasonic plazma set was excellent - I could not tell any difference using the switch from viewing the original signal just out of the device.
This solution seems simple on the surface, and most devices worked, but my installation was not entirely without problems. I was able to share an Apple TV and an HDMI DVD player with no problems. I have an amplifer that can accept HDMI, so I initially started by trying to run one of the outputs into the amplifier to capture the sound. This worked for the two above devices.
However, when I attempted to add an HDMI cable box into the picture, things got complex. I began getting HDMI copy protection errors, and the screen went blank. I called Gefen, who gave me excellent support throughout the process, but it did not seem that we were going to get it to work in this configuration. Finally we decided to connect to the amplifier using a coaxial digital cable instead of HDMI, and the problem cleared up - almost.
In normal operation the switch works fine for all my applications. The only place I am having a problem is when I want to record from my DVDR. In this case, I am simply using "RCA" cables to connect from the satellite box into my DVDR, selecting the DVDR on the switch to see the program and recording onto a DVD. Although this should not have generated any copy protection notice, because the composite cables were being used, it again cropped up, and the only solution for recording was to completely bypass the switch.
I believe that there may be another way to accomplish this without problems, but I ran out of troubleshooting time and have put it off for now. Perhaps other reviewers can add further comments here, because this is a useful product, and were it not for this problem I would have been able to give it a higher rating.
Gefen EXT-HDMI-442 4x2 HDMI Switcher
Pros: Allows HDMI switching between 4 devices. Can monitor selected device on two separate HDMI ports. Separate output for digital sound. Excellent picture quality.
Cons: Some digital copy protection issues. Clunky remote.
Synopsis: Works as advertised for most applications, but be careful with DVDR/PVR devices.
Rating: 3 1/2

Universal dock for iPhone, all iPod models w/remote control

Yeah, sad. This is junk. Didn't expect super high quality at this price but after just 2 button presses the remote died - never to work again. Bought a new battery for remote but that didn't help. Still works as a stand. Charges with a USB cable attached. Just audio with your 3.5m connector (of course).
None of the adapters work with my Touches (G3 and G4) with the case on, But will work with no adapter installed. Of course there is no (well even less) vertical support. handle carefully.
Useful only as a stand. If you need remote function - look elsewhere.

Revo Pico Portable WiFi Internet Radio Review

Revo Pico Portable WiFi Internet Radio
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been waiting for this type product for a long time and I am glad I bought it. However, I would not recommend it for everyone just yet. It has a coolness factor which I paid a premium. I refuse to pay for XM because there is too much free music out there. It works seamlessly with the Reciva website but expect some of the stations to not work properly. That's fine because there is so much to choose from. The sound quality is only ok but most stations are sub cd quality anyway. Battery life is maybe 3 hours depending on the loudness. WiFi distance is not very good. FM is not great either. Navigating the menus is far from intuitive. You really need to be tech savvy to understand this radio. The podcasts I listen to cut off about halfway. The remote sucks. Despite the cons, I think future firmware updates will continue to improve the technology. Unless you have some disposable income or have to have the latest, greatest, you might want to wait until revision 2.
*** UPDATE ***
I need to add a star to my review. The beta firmware (as of Jan 09) has cured my some of my gripes. It now scrolls metadata for some stations and plays podcasts properly. It will play Clear Channel stations also. Reciva has made the menus easier to navigate. You still need to be a techie to enjoy this radio.

Philips SJM3152/17 RF Universal Remote Control for iPod with iPod Cradle/Dock/Charger/AV Connection Kit Review

Philips SJM3152/17 RF Universal Remote Control for iPod with iPod Cradle/Dock/Charger/AV Connection Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Amazing little gadget actually works as advertised. Unlike the proprietary Denon or Yamaha ipoddocks this one you can connect to ANY kind of audio equipment. And unlike the APPLE ipod dock + flimsy tiny remote with no display whatsoever + AV connection kit (= $100) (which I returned to Apple) this remote works via RADIO FREQUENCY from across the room and through walls if it has to be. The remote even has a DISPLAY that shows you what's playing - you know, kind of useful when you're across the room. You can even navigate through your ipod's menu; that's never been easy and it doesn't get easier using a remote without clickwheel, but it works.
What really blew me away is that I was able to also program my Aquos TV, my Sony receiver, my Sony Blue Ray and my Panasonic VHD/DVD combo. Those devices it controls via INFRARED, just like your original factory remotes that came with whatever you bought, and therefore you have to point the remote at your TV etc when operating those. What a relief, that remote control clutter is gone.
Just for fun I even programmed this remote to control my BOSE Portable Sounddock. Yep, it works.

Wilife DVS800I LukWerks Indoor Starter Kit Review

Wilife DVS800I LukWerks Indoor Starter Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Wilife DVS800I LukWerks Indoor Starter Kit
I've been shopping for a new home security camera system for some time, and was lucky enough to get my hands on one of these sets. Overall I like the product, although I do have some reservations. This product is extremely targeted. So you have to know your needs very well in order to know if this is right for you.
This unit includes the Wilife management software, one indoor camera, suction cup mount, bar mount, table stand and power and USB connectors.
Installation
Physically installing the device is straightforward. The receiver and the camera must be attached through power outlet via receiver plugs and connected to your computer's USB port.
The software installation is not equally easy for all users. Any system running Windows Vista, Antivirus software and a software firewall running will need them to be temporarily disabled to get the Wilife software to install. In addition, Windows Vista's extra protection means you will have to click yes several times and go through a few reboots.
This setup made the installation take a little over an hour and required an extra reboot due to some initial hanging. Still, well worth it to have this system installed on a secure OS.
Installing on XP may be slightly easier, but you will still have to deal with disabling your Antivirus or desktop firewall if you are running those. If you're buying a home security system, you will probably want the computer that's storing those files to be secure. With that in mind, taking the extra time to have AV and a firewall installed is probably worth the extra effort.
The design of the indoor cameras is very unique. I can only guess that they are designed to cram a lot of electronics into a very small body. The outdoor cameras are more traditionally shaped. In any event, they all seem to work well once set up.
Adjustment and Expansion
Once you've got the software running, the amount of options for managing this unit are impressive. While most novices need not change settings. You may want to adjust the setting for motion sensitivity after running this for a while. I found that turning down the sensitivity ideal for my use. This will vary based upon which areas this device is being used to monitor.
You can do some cool things with this system, including setting up phone or email notifications of recordings that exceed limits you can set.
This wasn't my first security system, but it was my first introduction to Wilife. I can say without reservation that experienced users will love the adjustable features, except for a few functions disabled unless you upgrade to the premium package.
There are three starter sets: this one with an indoor camera, another with an outdoor camera Wilife DVS800E LukWerks Outdoor Starter Kit, and one with a "hidden" camera Wilife DVS800C LukWerks Spy Camera Starter-Kit. If you want multiple cameras or a combination of them, you will have to buy those additional units as add-ons. It would have been nice if they would have simply produced a starter set with one of each or some other configurations. Once again, 90% of users will be happy with these starter sets, I personally just know I will have to either buy more add-ons or upgrade to the Pro set.
There is a bridge you can buy for about $80 to integrate this with the pro set Wilife Homeplug Bridge. Those that want to avoid using power-line communications will most likely have to consider a more expensive pro version Wilife Pro 4CAM Master Syst Pro Ip Video Security Syst 4CAMS or a different system all together.
The available add-ons and accessories include:
1. Night-Vision 50 Illuminator kit illuminates up to 30 ft and includes an 80° IR lens
2. 54 degree camera lens allows the camera to better view distant objects
3. Standard 80 degree camera lens to replace damaged indoor lenses
4. 120 degree Wide Angle camera lens covers twice the area for better close-ups
5. Set of 5 Adhesive-Backed Mini-Clips to attach your camera cables
6. Set of 2 Small Suction Cups to route camera cables around windows
7. Wall mount bracket for ceiling or wall mounting your camera
8. Deluxe mount with extensions for mounting cameras from a drop ceiling or solid surface
9. Desktop Stand to place your camera on any flat surface
10. Mounting Suction Cup to attach the camera to a window
11. Replacement cables in Standard (10 ft), Extended (20 ft) and Long (30) lengths
12. CAT 5, RJ-45 cable extender for up to 80 feet of CAT 5e cable
Considerations
1. Your camera must be close enough to an outlet to connect it via the included 10 foot cable. You will need an extender if your power outlets are further away.
2. You have to manually adjust the camera focus, so adjust it before mounting.
3. You will need to have a computer that meets the minimum requirements
4. Your computer needs to be on all the time for the recording of video.
5. You will need a broadband connection to access this video remotely.
6. This power-line connection will work better with newer wiring.
7. You will want enough hard drive space to allocate at least 2 GB or more for storage.
8. It will take a little time running the system to set your optimal motion sensitivity
9. The computer receiving the video signal and recording does need to be a PC. If you have a Mac running Parallels or other virtual PC running Windows XP or Vista, you could theoretically install the monitoring software on that. Few users will want to or be able to set that up.
10. For panning or remote adjusting, you need to purchase an "upgrade" for $79 per year to activate the advanced features. So most of us will live without those features.
11. If you have Windows Vista, antivirus software and / or an internet firewall application, installation requires several extra steps.
Pros
+ Nice power over Ethernet design - no batteries needed!
+ Nice price for a fully functioning starter system
+ Very easy to add cameras to the system - up to 6 cameras supported
+ Nice group of available accessories to customize your installation
+ Great management software with many customizable settings for those experienced with security systems
+ Default settings will meet the needs of novice users and not require changes or adjustment
+ System is motion activated, saving storage space
+ Video recordings are stored in a directory and easily backed, copied, or erased
+ You can easily access your camera via live feed over the internet
Cons
- Not particularly fond of them including the "digital pan and zoom" feature as part of the premium ($79 per year) package, but I will live without those features
- Also need the premium package to access recorded videos over the internet.
- More demanding users will need a system that includes audio
- Manual focus adjustment for camera; why not offer a higher priced one with auto-focus?
- Some latency on website video access
Conclusion
This set is definitely worth looking into. For most basic needs, this set fits the bill at a very good price.
Enjoy!

HDMI Switcher 5-input, 1-output with 1080p Support Review

HDMI Switcher 5-input, 1-output with 1080p Support
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My television is an older plasma. It has 1 HDMI port. I started hooking my computer to it to watch Blu Ray movies, and after trying to get behind everything to change cables, I decided to get port switcher. I counted the number of devices I needed to hook up. This switcher has 5 input ports and 1 output, supports 1080p and has a remote. The number of inputs was important for me. So was the remote. I can hook 5 different HDMI devices to the back of the switcher. Then the switcher was connected to the TV. I can switch from one device to another with the push of a button. For instance, I can watch a BluRay movie on my computer, pause it, the switch to my satellite receiver with the push of a button.
You can't beat the price either. It arrived very quickly. Installation consisted of plugging it into the TV's HDMI output and plugging to power cord into the socket. There is no on or off switch. No configuration. The remote has a button for each input. That's it. Cheap. Easy setup. Simple. Easy to use. Very small. Takes up very little space.

Make sure you have enough HDMI cables to hook everything up.
