(More customer reviews)I'm no techno-geek, so I'll try and explain this in non-technical terms, in case anybody is interested.
This is your standard Direct TV remote, except this version has both IR and RF capabilities. In certain instances, you may need IR (Infrared) and RF (Radio Frequency) remotes. My situation was that I have a Direct TV HD-DVR (HR24-200) and a Standard HD receiver (H21-200) in the same room- one top of the other, actually- and using one remote for one device (like for changing the channels) would change the channel on the other device.
I, of course, didn't realize this when the Direct TV technician came in and set up this all up, and since the wife and I have our own remotes, the bottom line was I needed an RF capable remote for me, so that I could operate each device separately also.
This remote did the trick...however one big thing to realize: The remote I received was already in IR mode. I thought it was broken, but through a little digging on the Direct TV technical site, I found how you can change the remote to "RF" mode. Here are the steps:
1. make sure "slider" on top is set to dtv.
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release
3. enter 0 0 0 0 1
4. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release
5. enter 9 6 1
6. press CH UP
7. enter the last 6 digits of the Receiver ID# (RID), found on a sticker in the access card compartment
8. press SELECT
The remote came with absolutely NO directions, and I almost rated it 4 stars as a result. Outside of that annoying little omission, it works fine. Hopefully it'll last, too.
Good luck!
