Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)After receiving this product I quickly installed it and wanted to try it out. The computer I installed it in was not a a dedicated multimedia computer but I do use it to watch movies and tv episodes on so I thought it might be useful.
Physical Installation:
It does require a USB input to it so you either have to free up a connection on your mother board or somehow wire it up to a usb connection on your computer. I wish it came with a connection splitter so you could have it share other usb connections but it wasn't that big of a deal, I ended up using a usb connection splitter I had laying around. It was nice that it came with the option of connecting straight to the mother board or to a usb female. Another issue I ran into was that the 3.5 inch bay tray it has is not full length. Computers that have one touch bay locking systems may not work with this, as was my case so I had to jury rig it to stay fixed.
Software Installation:
This was honestly the most difficult part with this device. The CD it came with was on a software version that was at least 4 years old and installed fine to the computer but only 2 or 3 of the commands actually worked after it was installed. After searching around I found the latest version of the software which is free from soundgraphs website. I also found out that this device is actually just a rebranded version of the iMON Elite. I was actually glad to find this out because iMON has really nice support on their website and forums on how to get this thing working. After downloading version 8.00 of the iMON Manager from soundgrqaphs website all the buttons started working correctly and it was useable. As a side note the forums there also have lots of remote settings files that will work with a whole lot of different media players such as VLC, MediaPortal and so on. Also if the sound buttons are not working correct with your device, like volume up and down and mute make sure you select the the correct sound card device in the iMON manager under Options -> System -> Sound Card Device.
Remote:
I actually really like the remote that came with this device. It is nice that you can move the mouse around with the middle pad button and toggle it between keyboard and mouse input. Overall I have had a very good experience with this remote and if this was a dedicated multimedia computer I think it would work just fine. Since my computer is not a dedicated multimedia computer though it was sometimes easier just getting up and using a mouse and keyboard. Though it is still nice to have the remote to change the volume and pause and play what ever you are watching.
Final Opinion:
Overall I am glad i bought this product. I am not sure how useful the screen is on the front of the device but it sure looks cool and that is what i was going for (might be more useful for a dedicated multimedia machine). The software installation was a bit annoying but nothing that couldn't be solved by using google. The remote was easy to use and convenient. This device is definitely oriented to the dedicated multimedia machine though it is still useable for the average movie watcher, and over all I was happy with this purchase.
