(More customer reviews)I purchased this product about two weeks ago because I needed an infarred repeater (IR) system that would work reliably but would not stand-out in a Great Room that gets a lot of natural light. I'm a stickler for details, and my wife hates wires. The only thing visible is the wall plate (target) that I mounted at the same height as a light switch on the other side of the fireplace. (My monitor is wall-mounted above the fireplace.) If you have any questions about how to install a system like this or questions about how the parts work to get IR remote commands to your hidden or non-line of sight AV components, read Mike from Jacksonville's review! Thanks buddy! I used Indoor/Outdoor CAT5 wiring because I had to pull the wiring under the house. (CAT5 can be tempermental! DO NOT step on it, kink it or staple it in anyway,...or you could experience problems.)
The parts are well-built and individually packaged. This kit even includes a white Decora Style wall plate. Other systems that I considered purchasing did not include a wall plate, even though most ads pictured one,... and they were more expensive. I found the instructions to be accurate, well-written and thorough. (Each packaged part came with it's own set of instructions.) Assembly was a breeze! The entire system took about 15 minutes to install and power-up,... barring pulling wiring and installing the low voltage junction box. The IR sensor on the wall plate is sensitive, and it provides immediate feedback once a signal is detected by flashing a blinking red light. Daytime performance is stellar!
The only thing that I was not crazy about is the size of the heads on the IR flashers. They appeared tiny in the add. This is a concern because my components are housed in a custom-built (...by Yours Truly!) in-wall cabinet, which is located in the same room about 20ft away from TV on the opposite wall. The shelves are frosted glass, and it's all open. I plan to replace the standard flashers with mini flashers only because I don't like seeing anything, with wires, stuck to the front of my components. Luckily, most my equipments' cases are black, so the wires were easily hidden and camouflaged.
Plasma interference was a concern. I contemplated matching this with a Plasma proof IR receiver, but interference proved to not be a problem. Careful...., the receiver is not plasma-proof nor was that claim made. It simply wasn't an issue with my installation, so that's something to consider.
The bottom line is this kit works! I can now fire a signal from anywhere in my Great Room, Dining Room, and Kitchen at the fireplace wall and all my components work fine...the first time!
Oh,...I'm using this with the Logitech Harmony ONE. The two were made for each other!
