(More customer reviews)I was looking for a remote for the occasional times when I would like to run the Media Center features on my Windows 7 Pro Netbook. For portability, the main issue I have seen with so many other MCE remotes is that the IR receiver dongle is usually quite bulky with a fixed, long cable. I have attached a picture of what you get in the box with the GRC100 (not pictured are 2 AAA generic batteries). As you can see, it has a very small IR dongle and also includes an 18" USB extension cable. Windows 7 auto-installed the USB drivers without a hitch and I am a happy camper. The remote itself says RC6 on the back, which usually means it is cross-compatible with other MCE remotes. I tested it on a Microsoft brand receiver as well as a generic one that came with an Asus tuner card, which are cross-compatible with each other. The GRC100 is not compatible with either, but that was not a "show stopper" for me. I just want it to work with its own receiver, which it does and has decent range at various angles.
The marketing description for this item focuses on its compatibility with Diamond's All-in-Wonder cards, but I wrote this review to clarify that it has good compatibilty with all three flavors of Windows Media Center, irregardless of what video card you have. I also like the extra buttons this has for Picture, Radio, Videos & Music that are only found on a few MCE remotes. So far, so good is what I can say for now...
